Bills Lead The Charge in Home Opener

Ralph Wilson Stadium exploded with cheers as Ryan Fitzpatrick found David Nelson in the end zone with a mere 14 seconds left in the game to pull out 38-35 win against the Oakland Raiders! Buffalo dug themselves a huge hole in the first half falling 18 points behind the Raiders as the first half ran out. This game was by no means done. With 6 lead changes in the game, it appeared that the team with the last possession would win. Oakland’s Jason Campbell had a Hail Mary intercepted by Buffalo’s rookie Da’Norris Searcy as time expired to solidify the Bills win. However, it took 10 minutes after the game for the referee to confirm the interception.

Ryan Fitzpatrick followers have now coined him as ‘Fitzmagic’ and for good reason. Today’s performance was surely magical as he made that 18 point deficit disappear. I wish I had a clever name for Fred Jackson but for a player of his determination and skill, it’s hard to think of one that would do him justice. Maybe Freddy Kreuger Jackson, because he slashes through the defense. That’s exactly what he did against Oakland running for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Fitzpatrick and Jackson tandem are slowly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the NFL. The true test will come next week against the New England Patriots. If they can pull out a win against the Pats, you can consider this Bills team as real playoff contenders.

Buffalo's D Killing Me

There will be a lot of work defensively in order to prepare for New England. Buffalo’s run defense can hold their heads up high by holding Oakland’s power horse Darren McFadden to a measly 72 yards. The Bills pass defense on the other hand couldn’t stop a nose bleed. Oakland shredded Buffalo for 323 yards which included a 50 yard touchdown pass with just over 3 minutes left in the game. Dear Buffalo defense, can you please refrain on doing that next week, it caused my blood pressure to reach uncomfortable levels. Thanks.

The game ball was given to ailing Ralph Wilson who is recovering from a broken hip. It was the first home game he missed in over 50 years. I give my game ball to my wife who I’ve made a Bills fan, and she now has to deal with watching heart stopping games like we saw week 2.

Key notes from the game:

  • David Nelson was a beast today catching 10 passes 89 yards and the game winner
  • Spiller Time!! C.J. only had 4 touches but gained  63 yards on them.
  • Beer was cold , wings were hot
  • My heart rate is now at a normal level, 4 hours after the game

Remember, no matter what happens next week, we always have this win!
